Trying to come up with what to say in this last installment of the moron’s guide to an awesome band rehearsal. I keep thinking about the show “Mythbusters”. It’s the episode where they are trying to disprove the myth of cell phones that cause gas fires at local gas stations. I was about to pump gas earlier but I freaked out because of that episode.

Last time was the beginning section of the rehearsal part. Here is the real meat of the rehearsal stage, the details of what your band should be doing during practice.

Studies show that in order to develop a habit it takes roughly 21 days of consistent practice. Applying all the following principles consistently will create great habits for your team. Here is the third part of the morons guide to an awesome band rehearsal.

There was a lot going on in this part of the lesson.  Re-read it again and see how you can apply any of these tips to your band. Keep in mind these are basic commonsense guidelines that must be applied. Try not stray away from the path of musical righteousness and commit a musical sin or your band will be sent to musical hell.

You know what I mean?

Well, I jumped out of bed the other day thinking of what I was going to write for this next part of this series. Thinking hard in this awesome Salifornia weather in January (It must suck for the east coasters. HAHA! ) I ended up coming up with so many ideas that I was overwhelmed. I figure I have to extend this to a four part series.

Making sure everyone is accounted for is tough. Everyone has a different personal situation in their daily lives. They have to work late, pick up the kids, traffic, etc. That is why communicating is important in your team.

Commitment and dedication is also a key factor in our walk for an awesome band rehearsal.

He asked if I was available for this gig with this black gospel artist. Looking at the my schedule I was open…. so I took the gig.

Pulling into the church parking lot a few days later I arrived a bit early. As the time got closer for rehearsal I realized I was still the only car in the parking lot. To make a long story super short we started practice 45 minutes late. Red flag! Red flag!!

I had to leave after almost 4 hours of mindless time wasting. I was like,“Please God take me now.”  Too much detail went on that day but needless to say it was one of the worst rehearsal experiences I ever had.

I am a total team player and I am really easy to work with but I really had to tell them to get another guy. For real…..

I actually dropped a paying gig because it was really bad.

So with out further ado here is the:

After thinking and meditating long and hard, it dawned on me how simple it was. I call this formula the “Rehearsal Trinity”! Three components that if one is without the other it will literally make your team fall apart: Here are the components.

Yes, I know, too easy right?
Here they are again:

• Spiritual Time
• Team Time
• Music Time

Believe me that I know many worship teams have at least one of those parts missing or their not putting enough work or care into all three. Rehearsal is a crucial part that if not taking care of properly will make your team lose the spiritual battle that we fight every day.

“I discipline my body training to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.”

! Corinthians 9:27

If we drop our guard, the enemy will trample all over your team and we’re not going to let this happen right? Take a stance and do what’s right for your team and make sure all parts of the rehearsal trinity are healthy.
